How It Works

Creating The Photograph You Never Had.

Creating your portrait is a simple, personal journey. Send me the photographs you have and I'll personally check what's possible before you make any payment. If you'd like to go ahead, I'll guide you through every step from there.

Start Your Portrait

No payment is needed to send your photographs.

Your Journey

Every Portrait Follows The Same Gentle Process

You'll work directly with me throughout. I'll first check your photographs, explain what's possible and answer any questions before you decide whether you'd like to go ahead.

1

Share Your Photographs & Story

Send me the photographs you'd like me to work from and tell me a little about the portrait you're imagining. You can share as much or as little as you'd like.

No payment is taken at this stage.

Step one — choosing the photographs to work from
Step two — carefully separating each person from their original photograph
2

I Check Your Photographs & Plan It With You

I'll personally look through your photographs and let you know honestly what I believe is possible. If you're unsure what would work best, I'll help you choose the photographs and talk through the composition with you.

Once I've confirmed I can work with your photographs, you can decide whether you'd like to go ahead.

3

Choose Your Portrait & Secure Your Order

Once I've confirmed your photographs are suitable, you can choose how you'd like to receive your finished portrait.

Digital Portrait — £35

Your finished high-resolution portrait sent digitally.

Keepsake Portrait — £80

Your digital portrait plus a professionally printed and framed portrait, beautifully presented in a Solace Keeps keepsake box with UK delivery included.

If you'd like to go ahead, I'll send you a secure payment link. Payment is made before I begin creating your artwork.

You're under no obligation to order simply because I've checked your photographs.

4

Your Portrait Is Carefully Created

Once payment has been received, I'll begin creating your portrait. I carefully bring your photographs together, paying close attention to lighting, colour, skin tones, positioning, proportion, perspective and the small details that help the finished portrait feel natural.

Step three — blending lighting and colour so the portrait looks natural
Step four — refining the portrait together until it feels right
5

We Review It Together

When your first version is ready, I'll send you a preview. If anything doesn't feel quite right, you can request changes and I'll continue refining it with you until it feels right.

Nothing is printed or finalised until you've approved your portrait.

Helpful Guidance

The Perfect Portrait Doesn't Need Perfect Photographs

Every portrait begins with the photographs you already have. They don't need to be professional or perfect. Whether they're decades old, faded, separate, or tucked away in a drawer, I'll carefully look at what you have and help you understand what's possible.

What makes a good photograph?

Everyday photographs can often become the most meaningful portraits.

Old, faded, printed or treasured photographs are welcome.

People photographed years apart can often be brought together naturally in one portrait.

Creases, fading and minor damage can often be carefully improved as part of the portrait process.

Black and white photographs can often be colourised where appropriate.

If you're unsure which photographs to send, I'll personally help you choose.

Here's what separate family photographs can become.

Before — separate photographs of mum and grandma
Original Photographs
After — mum and grandma together in one portrait
Finished Portrait
Old photographs — separate pictures of father and son
Original Photographs
Finished portrait — together in one photograph
Finished Portrait

Every portrait shown here was created from separate photographs provided by real families.

FAQ

Questions About The Process

Often just one clear photograph of each person is enough. The more you can share, the more choice I have, but there's no minimum to worry about.
